UP TO ELEVEN | MAXIMALISM
OPENING: JANUARY 30 | 6 PM TO 9 PM CLOSING: FEBRUARY 20
In the arts, maximalism, a reaction against minimalism, is an aesthetic of excess and redundancy. The philosophy can be summarized as “more is more” contrasted with minimalist motto "less is more.” Maximalism celebrates richness and excess characterized by decoration, sensuality, luxury, and fantasy.
Acknowledging the inherent instability and uncertainty of meaning in maximalist work, focus is put on the process of creation itself. What is in the artist's mind at the moment of creation may not necessarily appear in the work, nor does meaning need to be expressed directly.
