PINSTRIPING

AN INTRODUCTION TO PINSTRIPING
INSTRUCTOR: PAT RAU

Recommended for ages 13+

Welcome to the beginning of your pinstriping journey! In this two week workshop you will begin by developing a relationship with your materials, and leave with your very own finished piece(s) of pinstriped artwork! Our first session will involve learning about a brief history of the art, your tools, the different marks you can make with your brushes, and how to hold/use them. We will focus on brush control, muscle memory and hand eye coordination, and learning how the oil-based enamel paints used in this art form react to
different surfaces. We will discuss pinstriping theory and composition, the importance of trial and error, and the patience it takes to make mistakes, learn from them, and develop your own unique style. We will also take a look at the work of some of the industry’s biggest names.

Our second session will be when the magic happens! At this point you’ve gained enough familiarity with your materials and pinstriping theory to begin working on your very own hot-rod masterpiece. A variety of fun surfaces will be provided for you to create on—vintage clutches, wallets, wall mounted panels, clocks, and more!

MATERIALS
All materials will be supplied for a $30 fee, payable to your instructor at the first class session. Bring your creativity, and your sense of wonder! You may want to bring an apron or wear clothes that can get messy.
