MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

David Anderson is a lapidary artist based at Cottonwood Center for the Arts in Colorado Springs, CO. He shares a studio with his wife, Karen Anderson, and sister-in-law, Debra Box, both accomplished artists in their own right. David specializes in teaching students the fundamentals of transforming rough stone into beautifully finished cabochons, known for his signature high-polish finish.

David started his lapidary journey in the San Francisco Bay Area, where he learned the basics of stone cutting and polishing from his father, a member of the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). David was responsible for maintaining the equipment and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

After moving to Colorado, David spent many years working as a motorcycle and automotive mechanic. Following several back surgeries, he returned to his original love of lapidary. Through years of practice, experimentation, and refinement, he has elevated his craft to a high level of artistry.

Today, David finds great fulfillment not only in creating finely polished stones but also in sharing his knowledge with others. As an accomplished lapidary artist and instructor, he is dedicated to helping students discover the beauty and craftsmanship involved in turning rough rock into a polished work of art.
