HURRY UP SLOW DOWN
HURRY UP AND SLOW DOWN:
FILM PHOTOGRAPHY
INSTRUCTOR: BRIAN TRYON
Hurry up and slow down in this two-day film photography workshop and walk in the streets of Knob Hill.
Day 1: We’ll meet at Shutter & Strum, 2217 E Platte Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80909. With a 35mm film camera and a roll of black and white film, you will join a small group of like-minded people and photographer Brian Tryon on an exploration of the beautiful urban landscape of the Knob Hill Arts District. This class will focus on mindfulness, technique, lighting, creativity, and most importantly on SLOWING DOWN with your camera, thinking about each shot you make.
Day 2: You and the group will then continue your journey in the Shutter & Strum darkroom to develop your film and make prints of your favorite frames. Fall in love with the tactile process of darkroom development—for the first time or all over again!
Open to all levels of photographers. No digital cameras. Recommended for ages 15 and up.
MATERIALS
Bring your imagination, a 35mm film camera if you have one (Brian will provide one if you don’t!), and film is available to purchase from Shutter & Strum. Darkroom chemicals and paper will be provided.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
I'm a Colorado native, artist, mentor , educator, and photographer who finds meaning in telling stories through visuals. I founded and own a small community art center in Colorado Springs called Shutter and Strum.
Creating is how I process the world—whether it's capturing a quiet moment with my camera or expressing emotion through paint and texture. My work is deeply personal, often inspired by real-life experiences, people, and the beauty found in everyday moments. Art isn’t just what I do—it’s how I connect, heal, and grow.
