ABSTRACT PAINTING 2

ABSTRACT PAINTING IN ACRYLIC 2:
TOOLS & TECHNIQUES
INSTRUCTOR: ELISA HUGGINS

Building on lessons learned in Level One, you will dig deeper into color theory and the all-important elements of composition, while also learning to use new tools, techniques, and materials.

For starters, you’ll create your own personal color swatches, and bind them accordion-style. You can then refer to these for compositions on three substrates: cradle board, watercolor paper, or canvas. You will also learn the processes of painting on bigger surfaces while applying specific elements of composition.

Using the usual tools, some not-so-usual ones, and maybe some that are self-made, you can explore a variety of materials for creating texture or even a collage.

These exercises should help you discover your own processes, awaken the abstract artist in you, and find your voice to express your interpretations of the world around you.

Come ready to dive deep and really explore!

MATERIALS
All materials are provided via the $40 supplies fee, payable by check or cash to your instructor on the first day of class.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

I majored in arts and architecture a few decades ago, but needing to satisfy my curiosity in other fields of the arts, I returned to school and studied digital media and graphic design. I am forever an art student -- learning and improving on my skills.

I get an absolute thrill from the journey that produces a work of art, be it drawing, painting, paper crafting, pottery, digital illustrations, or photography. I love the benefits I get from exploring different media and processes in art-making, and then teaching others what I’ve learned. For me, art-making is good for brain health, emotional wellbeing, physical dexterity, and overall wellness.
