SD2 SCHOLARSHIPS
HARRISON SD2 YOUTH SCHOLARSHIPS
As part of our commitment to serve our community, Cottonwood Center for the Arts grants four art class scholarships for Harrison School District 2 students every month. Our goal is to amplify the creative learning they receive in school by providing new and continuing arts education in a safe and supportive environment. Students will also be invited to see art works by local artists in our galleries as well as view professional artists at work throughout our facility.
We don’t have requirements for students’ skill levels, but we do have some expectations for our scholarship recipients:
Students shall treat instructors and other students with kindness and respect. Disruptive behavior will result in the revoking of the student’s scholarship.
Students shall arrive on time for class and attend all scheduled class sessions. The student’s teacher or parent/guardian should pre-arrange tardiness or absence with Annie Pieper at classes@cottonwoodcenterforthearts.com/719-520-1899.
Students aged 15+ are invited to explore our facility on their own before and after class during business hours, as long as their parent or chaperone knows their whereabouts—please check in with Cottonwood Staff at the front desk. Students younger than 15 are invited to do the same if they are accompanied by an adult. Parents/guardians should walk in with their students and also come in to pick up their students, but may leave the building during class if they wish (although they are welcome to stay and tour the galleries!). Students driving themselves to Cottonwood may come in and leave unattended.
WHO GETS A SCHOLARSHIP, AND HOW?
Scholarships are awarded based on the availability of the requested class in concert with the student’s own availability. Requests should be sent to Andrew Bristol at abristol@hsd2.org. Please include: Student Name, School, Age, and the name and desired start date of the class they would like to take.
Not every Cottonwood class is appropriate for every student—their age/maturity level will determine which classes are right for them. In most cases, ‘adult’ classes are great for dedicated students aged 15+. THEY AND THEIR PARENTS/GUARDIANS SHOULD BE AWARE that there WILL be adult students in class with them. If you know a scholarship candidate that is younger than 15 and would still be a great fit for an ‘adult’ class, please contact Annie Pieper at classes@cottonwoodcenterforthearts.com/719-520-1899 to discuss their circumstances. All our ‘youth’ classes are organized by recommended age range (i.e. 6-12 or 13-18), but again, if you know a candidate whose age doesn’t match our recommendation, reach out to Annie with your questions.
Scholarships will cover the cost of class registration as well as the materials fee. For classes that request that specific supplies be brought to class, Cottonwood will procure those supplies and make them available at the start of class. For the purposes of program accounting, awards for Dare to Oil Paint Level 2 and for Digital Animation will count as two and three scholarships respectively due to their longer class time, as well as the higher expense of materials.
