PLEIN AIR PREP TO REALITY

WATERCOLOR EN PLEIN AIR: PREP TO REALITY
INSTRUCTOR: J.R. MONKS

Painting on location can be an incredibly enjoyable experience, and with a little preparation and practice in the studio before heading out of doors your enjoyment and ultimate success is completely possible. We will focus on base skills and practice with intention for 2 studio sessions and then take our watercolor gear and skills outdoors for our third session in Nature’s studio. Students will review watercolor gear specific for on location work as well as practice techniques most useful while in the files to capture the light and mood of a specific location. Our final session will include final tips and feedback for your creations!

MATERIALS
An array of materials will be available for your first session. Students already working in watercolor are welcome to bring materials; however, you may elect to edit your gear after our first session. Those new to the medium may want to wait until attending the first session to purchase materials to help select the best materials for the best possible results.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

J.R. Monks is a contemporary visual storyteller of the West.  He works both directly in the field and in his studio, and strives to be honest and bold in his approach creating images that speak to the beauty, grit, and spectacle of the Western United States.  J.R. is a 4th generation Colorado rancher, and  maintains a studio in his small hometown on the eastern plains near the ranch where he was born and continues to live on. Ranching and rural life are still a very important part of his life. You can view more of his watercolor works by visiting jrmonks.com.
