INTRODUCTION TO SCREENWRITING
INSTRUCTOR: ELISSA HUTSON

This course welcomes anyone who is interested in the art and craft of screenwriting. We'll explore the fundamentals of visual storytelling—things like dialogue, plot, and character development—and have fun doing it! Through exploratory writing and generative exercises, you'll discover the story you want to tell and begin drafting it for the screen. Open to all levels. Beginners encouraged.

MATERIALS
Laptop or pen and paper. No special software required, but you can get a free trial of programs that will do screenwriting formatting if you'd like.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR

Elissa Hutson is a writer, editor, and multidisciplinary artist. A graduate of Sarah Lawrence College (BA) and Arizona State University (MFA), she has eight years of experience teaching creative writing, rhetoric, and narrative theory at ASU and CU Boulder. Elissa’s fiction was selected by Aimee Bender for National Public Radio Selected Shorts. She is the recipient of the Glendon and Kathryn Swarthout Award in Writing, and she serves as Associate Editor (Fiction) at Image Journal. Elissa grew up backpacking with llamas and harvesting red and green chile in New Mexico. She makes her home in the mountains of Colorado. www.elissahutson.com
