GOUACHE 102
GOUACHE 102
INSTRUCTOR: LORI GANNI
Do you want to be a better painter but feel like there must be a secret to better paintings? That secret could be values. Values hold a painting together in much the same way a composition does. Without strong values, paintings look flat, even if they are colorful. If you have some comfort level with understanding values or mixing them in any medium, even graphite, this class is for you. Also, if you have taken Gouache 101 you are welcome to join.
We will use gouache to mix values - the real secret to making your paintings come alive! New artists will learn the importance of values and experienced artists will benefit from going back to basics or filling in gaps in habits or training.
We will do some value exercises and explore the way we see shades of black and white and color. Watch yourself build out lights, darks and mediums that sing and give life to your subjects. A value study of your subject will become the base of your final painting. You will complete an 8" X 8" painting using the concepts taught in the class. References will be provided or you may bring your own.

MEET YOUR INSTRUCTOR
Lori has been painting since she was in grade school and has had wonderful mentors and teachers along the way, studying at John Herron School of Art, Art Institute of Atlanta, and Denver Art Student’s League. She believes everyone is an artist and encourages students to take chances and find their own style. Art is about expression and joy, not competition! She spends her free time with her husband, kids and grandkids or painting ‘plein air’ at many beautiful places in Colorado and New Mexico. Lori’s love of travel and frequent trips to the mountains, deserts, Mexico and the Caribbean, provide unlimited inspiration. Follow her on Facebook: Painting on the Rocks.
