DRAWING WHAT YOU SEE

DRAWING WHAT YOU SEE
INSTRUCTOR: JACQUELINE VIOLA MOULTON

Drawing is a way of seeing, and there are many different ways to see, to experience, and to encounter the world, and to then put those encounters onto paper. This class will go over the basics of putting pencil to paper in order to creatively express ourselves and our worlds. We will go over a few different styles of drawing as well as learning and practicing foundational tenets, skills, and tools for drawing. Throughout this course, we will do lots of practice sketches, some collaborative pieces, a few still lifes, and other fun drawing projects! No artistic experience necessary or required. We will learn together in a warm, open, and encouraging atmosphere.

MATERIALS
A sketch pad of your choice, as long as it is 9" x 12" (We do a lot of drawing in this class and we use a lot of paper. You don’t need a fancy or thick drawing paper pad at all!)
Graphite sketch pencils (assortment of soft to hard that contains “H” pencils and “B” pencils: ex. 8B - 2H)
Erasers (kneaded eraser, gum eraser)
Sharpener for pencils
A set of charcoal drawing pencils (this is optional! Some pencil sets come with this option already. If we do charcoal in class, I will have some for you to use, and so this is just if you like it and want to practice with charcoal at home!)
In my humble opinion - a mechanical pencil is always great to have around for the every day sketching, but you don’t have to have one of course!
