DISCARDED BOOK
THE DISCARDED BOOK
INSTRUCTOR: JESSICA SPERLING
Give the discarded new life in this tactile, mixed-media workshop. We will be creating an art book with recycled and up-cycled materials and explore an array of mediums. No two books will be the same as we all have different stories to be revealed. Expect a bit of mess, a bit of storytelling, and a lot of intuition. Perfect for anyone drawn to the beauty of broken things. No experience necessary—just a willingness to tear, glue, and make something bold from the remnants.
MATERIALS
Please bring $20 for your supplies, payable to your instructor at the start of the first class session. Bring your own scraps if you want!

I’ve always made art—drawn to the freedom of nature and creating without asking permission. A bit of a rebel (rules of thirds? never heard of her), I follow instinct over instruction, letting curiosity, experiment, mistakes, and feeling lead the way. Over time, I’ve developed a personal, unpolished style rooted in emotion and imperfection. I’m drawn to what’s been discarded—scraps, stains, forgotten objects—and find beauty in giving them new life through texture, layering, and story and incorporating nature into all things. My work is about reclaiming beauty in what’s been cast aside and not seen then giving it a new life because these discarded things still have something to say.
