ALLA PRIMA OIL CLASS
ALLA PRIMA OIL IMMERSION
INSTRUCTOR: LARISA GENDERNALIK
Alla prima is a technique in which pigments are laid on in a single application instead of being built up by repeated layers. I will teach oil painting with palette knife, cloth, fingers and brushes. It is a fast, wet-on-wet technique, and allows each student to complete several paintings throughout the course. With oils we make no mistakes; paint can be moved, scraped or wiped off. Be brave and let's paint!
Recommended for students aged 11 to adult.
MATERIALS
Feel free to bring your own set of oil paints and tools, or bring $30 for your instructor at the first class session and she’ll supply everything you need.

Art has been a lifelong journey for me. Growing up in Saint Petersburg, Russia, I was surrounded by rich culture and creativity. My father, a leading engineer and architect, taught me not only how to draw but also how to love the act of creating. Under the mentorship of prominent Russian artists, I spent my childhood and teenage years painting, drawing, sculpting, and exploring the endless possibilities of art.
Alongside my artistic training, I was a competitive figure skater, which led me to study sport science at the Saint Petersburg Academy of Sport Science. My studies in anatomy and human movement have become an essential foundation for my artistic work, inspiring me to capture the beauty and energy of the human form.
In 1979, I immigrated to the United States as a political refugee. I continued to study and teach both figure skating and art across the country, including at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
Today, I am proud to teach art classes at the Cottonwood Center for the Arts. My passion for learning, discovery, and expression is at the heart of everything I do. I believe that every artist, at any stage of their journey, can find joy, growth, and inspiration through creating. I look forward to sharing this exciting journey with you!
