SHOWING UP AND DOING YOUR WORK

SHOWING UP AND DOING YOUR WORK
INSTRUCTOR: VIVIAN EDELSON

How does one show up and continue to do their creative work over the long run? How does one keep internal and external obstacles at bay? Two sources of wisdom can help us: 1. the big picture views and practices of artists who have written about their creative struggles ; and 2. the understanding of our own ways of working, which we will experience, reflect upon, and share in class. In each session, we'll have a short discussion, and then students will work with simple materials (such as aluminum foil and masking tape) and try to reach some kind of closure within a set time. Individual and shared reflection upon experiences will round out the session.

This class stems from Vivian's 25+ years of doing her own work, taking classes that were about the creative process; teaching in a variety of situations, and reading. She continues to be amazed how just one idea can make all the difference in showing up, feeling entitled to do so, and accepting fear.
