CLAY HAND BUILDING 101
INSTRUCTOR: HILARY MCCANDLESS BEARD
THURSDAYS | JANUARY 7-28 | 6 PM TO 8 PM | $100
Hand built clay, a favorite medium of child and fine artist alike, may be used to create a wide variety of objects, from the simple coffee mug, to the sculptural vessel. In this workshop, students will explore the basics of 3-D design while learning the fundamentals of working with clay. Using pinching, coiling, sculpting, and slab building techniques, they will create sturdy and lasting pieces reflecting their knowledge of ceramic craftsmanship and the basic elements of art. The last week will introduce basic glazing techniques, and pieces will be kiln-fired and available for pickup either during or shortly after class.
$25 materials fee payable to instructor on the first day of class. While all materials you need will be provided for in-class use, students may wish to pick up a pottery toolkit available at Meininger for use at home or in open studio.
